Golden State Collision Centers, Inc. presented a rehabilitated vehicle to Airman Adam Avalos and his family based at Beale Air Force Base. The vehicle will be presented during Beale Liaison Group’s annual Patriotic Golf Tournament on September 9, 2011 at the Peach Tree Golf Course in Marysville, CA.

“Each year, we come across cars that are written off by either the owner or the insurance company. Often these older vehicles are simply in need of mechanical or body work to get them road-ready and safe to drive. In these economic times, Golden State believes there are people who really need them, and this is the basis of this annual program,” said Dave Finkelstein, owner of Golden State Collision Centers, Inc. “We are delighted to be able to not only increase our donation amount in 2011, but to also include military families. It is our honor to pay tribute to those who serve our country with their lives. By providing a vehicle for the safety of their families, it is a small token of our gratitude for their selfless loyalty to our country.”

In an unprecedented event in the Northern California area, Golden State Collision Centers has presented rehabilitated vehicles to needy families during its “Giving Back to the Community Benevolence Event”, benefiting thirteen local families over the past four years.

Donations provided by local vendors, including, Bank of Feather River, LKQ/Keystone Auto Parts, Dave’s Auto Glass, Yuba Smog & Diagnostic, Master Mechanic and AutoNation’s Auto West Mazda of Roseville.

On March 25th, the Orangevale Chamber of Commerce awarded its second 2011 Chamber Gives Back $500 monthly community investment to Pacific Technology School of Orangevale. Pacific Technology School (PTS) is a state wide charter school in Orangevale located at the corner of Filbert Ave and Central Ave. The school was started in 2009 by a non-profit organization in Southern California called the Magnolia Schools. Currently in Orangevale, there are 6th, 7th and 8th grade classes and about 150 students. Class size has averaged about 18-22 with a plan not to exceed 25. This class size is a huge factor in improving the quality of education and class dynamics, and it is a main reason to choose PTS for many families.

Although their emphasis is on Science and Technology, they also offer students an opportunity to explore the arts. With the help of parent volunteers, an after school art club is now offered on Fridays. These types of programs are offered free to students so there is not a direct budget to fund the program. With this community investment grant, Pacific Technology School in Orangevale will fund the art club on Fridays so that the students would have a broader opportunity to experience more robust art projects.” Principal Mahmut Altun graciously accepted the award on behalf of the PTS Art Club, and is eager to put it into action right away.

“We are truly excited about investing back into local businesses and community organizations.” noted Honorary Orangevale Mayor, Lisa Montes, “We’re really seeing some positive momentum within the Chamber, and they are creating a spark for good things to happen in our community.”

The Orangevale Chamber of Commerce is utilizing a private donation allocated specifically to help fund programs and services that directly impact the community of Orangevale. By investing back into the community through chamber businesses and organizations, the Orangevale Chamber hopes to inspire others to follow suit and find ways to give back. This is the second of twelve monthly investments to be made into the community, and any existing or future chamber member can apply. The Orangevale Chamber of Commerce is pleased to have Pacific Technology School of Orangevale as a member of the local chamber, and is excited to continue investing back into our community through this program.
Vendors and sponsors get some great exposure at the event so if you are interested in becoming a vendor or a sponsor for the event, please apply. To get your vendor, sponsor and parade applications for Pow Wow Days, or to request information on how your organization can sell the unlimited ride wristbands as a fundraiser, visit the event website www.OrangevalePowWowDays.com, call the Chamber office at 916-988-0175 or stop by the Chamber office at 9267 Greenback Lane, Suite B-91, Orangevale.

This is a wonderful community event and it takes a whole team. We need volunteers! If you’d like to “pitch in” and volunteer your time and services to help with the event, please call the Chamber office at 988-0175. See you at Pow Wow Days 2011!

The Orangevale Chamber of Commerce hosted the 28th Anniversary Disc Golf Tournament on Saturday, July 31, 2010. The event has become a tradition for players from all over the area and it is one of the few tournaments that amateur players can get a “pay out” like the pros.

Shady Oaks is an 18-hole disc course that challenges players from all over our area. Veteran disc golf player/promoter Bruce Knisley of Final 9 Sports was the tournament director and co-hosted the event with the Orangevale Chamber of Commerce.

Phill Montes, said disc golf is the “fastest growing recreational sport in the nation.”

Disc golf allows low-impact exercise for all ages and skill levels. It requires physical dexterity and mental strategy. An offshoot of the Frisbee craze, it began with folks flinging Frisbees at targets like trash cans, trees, pipes and light poles. Disc golf now uses special discs of harder plastic made for various results, like different clubs in golf. Players aim for disc pole “holes’ of chains and a basket to catch discs. The object is to complete each hole in the fewest throws. Par for holes is 3, 4 or 5 and fewest throws wins. Like golf, disc golf stresses driving, approaches and putts. Players say “the drive sets up everything else that follows. A solid approach game is the difference between pars and bogeys. The putt is everything in Disc Golf … because it can really make the difference between winning and losing.”

The Professional Disc Golf Association runs events all over the United States. The Shady Oaks course is one of the association’s most popular courses and often is host to international play.

83 players competed in 2 rounds on Saturday, throwing for a share of the almost $2,000 purse. The entry fee was only $30. All registered players received lunch and a T-shirt. Local area businesses like: Wal-Mart of Orangevale, Costco, Lakeside Church–Orangevale, School Financial Credit Union, Sam’s Club, Orangevale Meat Shoppe, Save Mart, Final 9 Sports, Orangevale Lion’s Club and EzEvents, Inc. got involved as Community Supporters of the event and provided raffle prizes, beverages and other items.

The big winner of the day was Jason Johnson who entered and won “Closest to the Pin” and took 2nd place in the Open division. Jason went home with a new bike (donated by Wal-Mart), a new basket (donated by Final 9 Sports) and $95.00 in winnings.

Congratulations to all of the division winners:

Shane Robinson Open Division

Bruce Knisley Master Division

Anthon Leventon Am Master

Kurt Borges AM Grandmaster

Eric Crespo Inter

Chad Broussard Rec

To get more information on how to play disc golf or for the standing of all the players of the Anniversary Tournament visit the Final 9 Sports at the Shady Oaks course at 7208 Hazel Ave, Orangevale or visit the website at www.final9sports.com.
